Free Masonry
Freemasonry is a brotherhood that is spread all over the world. The modern
freemasonry is said to have started in 1717, when four lodges in London
was united into one grand lodge. Freemasonry was introduced in Sweden in
1735. The Swedish masonry is based on Christian values. There are three
lodges in Karlstad. The oldest one is the Saint John Lodge Sanctus Carolus,
founded in 1806, which works in the degrees I-III. The Saint John Lodge
Det Gyllene Snittet was founded in 2001. The Saint Andrew Lodge Carl August,
founded in 1811, works in the degrees IV-VI. Finally there is the Värmländska
Provinsial Logen, founded in 1874, which works in the chapter degrees VII-X.

these Grand Lodges are recognized by the Swedish Order of Freemasons. Those
lodges who are not recognized are marked with a *. A Swedish freemason
is not allowed to visit those lodges, and members of those lodges are not
allowed to visit the Swedish lodges.
