Born 20 of June 1566 in his parents' prison at Gripsholm. Parents: King Johan III and Katarina Jagellonicka of Poland. King upon the death of his father on 17 of November 1592. Crowned in the Cathedral of Uppsala 19 of February 1594. Defeated by his uncle Carl IX in Stångebro 25 of September 1598, deposed by the Parliament 24 of July 1599. Died 19 of April 1632 in Warszaw.
Married 1. on 31 of May 1592 in Kraków to Anna of Habsburg (1573-1598), crowned Queen of Sweden in Uppsala 19 of February 1594, daughter of Arch Duke Karl of Steiermark and Maria of Bavaria. Children: Anna Maria (1593-1600), Katarina (1594), Vladislaw (1595-1648) King of Poland.
Married 2. 1605 to Konstantia (1588-1631), Anna's sister. Children: Johan (1607-1608), Johan Kasimir (1609-1672) King of Poland, Johan Albert (1612-1634) Bishop of Ermelnd, later of Kraków, Karl Ferdinand (1613-1655), Bishop of Breslau, Alexander Karl (1614-1635), Anna Konstantia (1616), Anna Katarina (1619-1651).
