Married on 9 of April 1363 to Margareta of Denmark, daughter of King Valdemar Atterdag of Denmark and Hedvig, Duchess of Slesvig. Child: Olav (1370-1387).
Håkan had his father Magnus Eriksson imprisoned in Autumn 1361. On 25 of February 1362 Håkan was elected King of Sweden. Later that year he made peace with his father.
Both Magnus and Håkan were deposed in 1364, and Albrekt of Mecklenburg became King of Sweden. Magnus kept Norway and when he died, the Norwegian throne was inherited by his son Olav.
