Guillaume I

King 1815-1840

He became King in 1815, when the Kingdom of the Netherlands was established at the Vienna Conference. (In the Netherlands, he is called Willem.) The Netherlands of 1815 included Belgium. Guillaume also became Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
In 1830 Belgium declared its independance.
Married 1st to Wilhelmine of Hohenzollern on the 1 of October 1791. Children: Guillaume II, Frederick, Pauline, Marianne.
Guillaume I abdicated on the 7 of October 1840 and was succeded by his son, Guillaume II.
Married 2nd to Henrietta Adrienne Ludovica Flora d'Oultremont de Wégimont on the 17 of February 1841. Guillaume I died on the 12 of December 1843.


Guillaume II

King 1840-1849

Born on the 6 of December 1792. His parents were King Guillaume I and Queen Wilhelmina (née Princess of Prussia). He acceded the throne when his father abdicated on the 7 of October 1840.
Maried on the 21 of February 1816 to Anna Pavlovna of Russia. Children: Guillaume III, Alexander, Henri, Casimir, Sophie.
He died on the 17 of March 1849, and was succeeded by his son, Guillaume III.


Guillaume III

King 1849-1890

Born on the 19 of February 1817. His parents were King Guillaume II and Queen Anna (née Grand Duchess of Russia). He acceded as King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg upon the death of his father on the 17 of March 1849.
Married 1st on the 18 of June 1839 to Sophie Frederica Mathilde of Würtenberg. Sons: Guillaume, Maurice, Alexander.
Married 2nd on the 7 of January 1879 to Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont. Daughter: Wilhelmina.
His sons predeceased him. When he died on the 23 of November 1890, he was succeeded by his daughter Wilhelmina in the Netherlands. Luxembourg had Salic law, and William III was therefore succeeded as Grand Duke by his distant relative, Adolphe of Nassau.


Adolphe

Grand Duke 1890-1905

Born on the 24 of July 1817. His parents were Wilhelm, Duke of Nassau, and Louise of Saxe-Altenburg. When Guillaume III died on the 23 of November 1890, Adolphe inherited the Luxembourg throne in accordance with an old treaty.
Married 1st on the 31 of January 1844 to Elizabeth, Grand Duchess of Russia.
Married 2nd on the 23 of April 1851 to Adelaide of Anhalt-Dessau. Children: Guillaume IV, Frederick, Marie, Franz, Hilda.
On the 17 of November 1905, Grand Duke Adolphe died, and was succeeded by his son, Guillaume IV.


Guillaume IV

Grand Duke 1905-1912

Born on the 22 of April 1852. His parents were Grand Duke Adolphe and Grand Duchess Adelaide (née Princess of Anhalt-Dessau). He acceded the throne upon the death of his father on the 17 of November 1905.
Married on the 21 of June 1893 to Princess Maria Anna of Portugal. Daughters: Marie Adelaide, Charlotte, Antoinette, Elizabeth, Sophie.
On the 25 of February 1912, Grand Duke Guillaume IV died, and since his brothers had predeceased him leaving no heirs, he was succeeded by his daughter Marie Adelaide.


Marie Adelaide

Grand Duchess 1912-1919

Born on the 14 of June 1894. Her parents were Grand Duke Guillaume IV and Grand Duchess Maira Anna (née Princess of Portugal). She acceded the throne upon the death of her father on the 25 of February 1912.
After World War I, she was accused of having been to friendly with the Germans, and she was forced to abdicate. She abdicated on the 14 of January 1919, and was succeeded by her sister, Charlotte.
After the abdication, Marie Adelaide became a nun. She died in Schloss Hohenburg in Obervayern on the 24 of June 1924.

Charlotte

Grand Duchess 1919-1964

Charlotte Adelgonde Elisabeth Marie Wilhelmine. Born on the 23 of January 1896. Her parents were Grand Duke Guillaume IV and Grand Duchess Maria Anna (née Princess of Portugal). She acceded the throne on the 15 of January 1919, when her sister, Marie Adelaide, abdicated.
Married on the 6 of November 1919 to Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. Son: Jean I.
On the 12 of November 1964 she abdicated, and was succeeded by her son, Jean I.
She died in 1985.

Jean I

Grand Duke 1964-2000

Jean Benoit Guillaume Robert Antoine Louis Marie Adolphe Marc d'Aviano. Born on the 5 of January 1921. His parents were Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. He acceded the throne on the 12 of November 1964, when his mother abdicated.
Married on the 9 of April 1953 to Princess Josephine-Charlotte of Belgium.
Children: Marie-Astrid, Henri, Jean, Margaretha, Guillaume.
He abdicated on the 7 of October 2000 and was succeedes by his son, Henri.

Henri

Grand Duke 2000-

Henri Albert Gabriel Felix Marie Guillaume. Born in 1955. His parents are Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte (née Princess of Belgium). He acceded the throne on the 7 of October 2000, when his father abdicated.
Married in 1981 to Maria Teresa Mestre.
Children: Guillaume, Felix, Louis, Alexandra, Sebastian.
