Born 30 of April at Haga Castle and was given the names Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus. Parents: Prince Gustaf Adolf and Sibylla of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha. Crown Prince in 1950. Duke of Jämtland. King upon the death of his grandfather Gustaf VI Adolf on 15 of September 1973.
Married 19 of June 1976 to Silvia Renate Sommerlath (b 1943), daughter of Walther Sommerlath and Alice de Toledo. Children: Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée (b 1977) Crown Princess, Duchess of Västergötland 1980, Carl Philip Edmund Bertil (b 1979) former Crown Prince, Duke of Värmland, Madeleine Thérèse Amelie Josephine (b 1982) Duchess of Hälingland and Gästrikland.
The new Constitution of 1974 removed all formal power from the King. He is now "just" a symbol for the country. The change in the Act of Succession, in effect since 1 of January 1980, deposed Prince Carl Philip as Crown Prince in favour of his older sister Victoria.
