Born 4 of October 1550 at Stockholm's Palace. Parents: King Gustaf I and Margareta Leijonhufvud. Duke of Södermanland, Närke and Värmland in 1560. Defeated his nephew, King Sigismund, in Stångebro 25 of September 1598. Recognized by the Parliament as King in 1604. Crowned in the Cathedral of Uppsala 15 of March 1607. Died 30 of October 1611.
Married 1. 11 of May 1579 to Maria of Pfalz (1561-1589), daughter of Elector Ludvig VI of Pfalz och Elisabet of Hesse. Children: Katarina, Margareta Elisabet (1580-1585), Elisabet Sabine (1582-1585), Ludvig (1583), Gustaf (1587), Maria (1588-1589), Christina (1593-1594).
Married 2. 27 of August to Kristina (1573-1625), daughter of Duke Adolf of Holstein-Gottorp and Kristina of Hesse. Children: Gustaf II Adolf, Maria Elisabet (1596-1618), Karl Filip (1601-1622) Duke of Södermanland, Närke and Värmland.
